Autumn

 {all photos instagram}

I am a little late with this post,
a 5 week flu and then stomach bugs
have slowed us all down over the past few months.
I wanted to capture autumn in this space though,
as we really did have the most amazing season.
So hot, with a dash of snow.

Bright blue skies,
such lovely lingering summer sun,
vibrant orange, red, yellow trees.
There were days we enjoyed ice blocks on the back deck after school
with the kids asking if we could go swimming at the outdoor pool.
Scooter rides, bike rides, our trip to the coast.
All of summer lingering, lingering.
Then we had a cold snap,
with snow of the hills all around us.
The first fire of the season lit in the woodburner,
to remind us that summer cannot last forever.

The strongest leaves are still clinging to the trees,
So there is a hint of autumn lining the streets,
as Winter slowly eases in.

Thank you Autumn, for such amazing beauty.

The hot air balloons!

After much anticipation, Today arrived.
The first day of the hot air balloon festival.
My favourite day of the year -
the mass ascension one block from our house.
The stars aligned, and it was nothing short of magical.
Perfect still blue skies, not a cloud to be seen.
The sun rose as the balloons did....
they seemed to linger above us for the longest time,
before gently floating over the town.

It was out of this world.
Amazing.
I am still grinning.
I cannot wait to spend time editing the photos I took,
but of course I had to play with some taken on my phone!

The weather looks set to shine beautifully over the next 3 days,
so we will be soaking up as much of the balloons as we can.
It really was, a brilliant day for a balloon ride.

The beach in Autumn

A few more from our day at the beach.
The day she danced in her tutu at the waters edge for me.
And stood and watched for waves.

Swoon

Yesterday we went on an adventure,
to a surf beach south of the city.
Expecting to see surfers.
It was a little disappointing to see the water wave-less and surfer-less.

Until Annabel danced in her tutu for me at the waters edge.
And they both stood and watched for waves.
 Swoon.

Oh how she danced

Oh how we are loving these gorgeous autumn days,
that start out so crisp and icy,
with the sky clear and the palest of blues,
and by mid morning the sun is so warm,
and the sky free of clouds....

on these days, it feels like anything is possible.....

And she danced in the sun, with her barefeet in the grass...

and she ran, and she believed she could fly......

A little bit of loopiness....

The trees have been speaking to me again.  I know, I told you way back in the Spring, loopy.  It's just that we've been having the most amazing autumn weather ~ brilliant blue skies, warm mid day sun, and the trees....oh my goodness the trees!  Such colour, such fire - calling out to me - "look, look at us up here! Admire our leaves, the orange, the red, the yellow against the blue sky backdrop!  Quick, do it now, drive down the back streets, take a long walk around the neighbourhood, take a polaroid,
for soon we will be gone and the trees will be bare...."

And with the bare trees comes the cold.

But we won't focus on that,
we'll put that thought away for another day,
and we'll walk around the block again soaking up the sun,
the blue sky, and the fire in the trees...

Quite a few

Happy Easter!  We are back from our holiday to New Zealand, we all had the most amazing time catching up with family and friends and all things kiwi.  Every day I was snapping a polaroid where I could....we frequently stopped the car as the daily blue skies and brilliant autumn colours where just too perfect to pass by without capturing.  When the 680 died back in February I knew I had to replace it with another polaroid before this trip - and I hope you agree that autumn in the country is beautifully dreamy as seen through Sonny's viewfinder....

I have quite a few (hmmm, make that QUITE a few) more to scan,
so will be adding a few each day to the shops, both Etsy and Madeit are open again....
now back to scanning and eating Easter chocolate I go.....

Savouring the light

Have you been noticing a change in the light in the past week or so.....
it's funny how as the seasons change, so does the light.
It brings such a sense of nostalgia with it,
and I am finding every morning as the sun rises later,
and every evening as it sets earlier that I am savouring it...
for soon our days will be so short, and so cold.....
and we all know how I feel about short cold days.....
