Chase the Sun

{Chase the Sun, print available here}

This summer has been all about chasing the sun.
We haven't seen it that often;
after our fabulously hot and sunny spring
that had us swimming at the outdoor pool in November,
we all thought we were in for another long hot summer.
However, it feels like we are waiting for it to arrive.
When we do have the hot sunny days,
we chase the sun,
to the coast,
to the beach,
to the pool.

When it streams in through the windows at various times of the day
I find the kids turning their faces to it,
or sitting in the sunniest chair to soak up the warmth.

Sunshine,
please show us your gorgeous rays.
We love you so.

New Work - road trip inspired

I am really inspired right now,
we have been out to the coast a few times,
and there is something about being a passenger in the front seat
that gets my creative juices flowing.
I have pages of little sayings I plan to use on beach photos,
all inspired by conversations and musings in the car.

Here are the first 2 of the new series,
I hope you enjoy them!

November!

Hello November, you crept up on me.
The month before the merriest month of the year.
That makes you a bit special, doesn't it?

The beach still has my heart

I am seeing so many gorgeous fog filled mornings,
bare winter trees,
frost covered fields,
snow capped hills.

Soon I will brave frozen fingers to capture them on camera,
but for now,
I am still all about the beach.

Facebook Sale!

Friends, I have had a huge studio clean out.
And have decided that all of this excess stock,
new prints and retired prints,
need new loving homes.
Rather than sit here in my studio,
I would love if they were on walls
and pinboards and fridges
around the world.

So, I am having a huge facebook sale.
Photo prices range from $4 -$9 - $14 -  $20
Bargain hey!
It is simple, all you need to do
is have a look through the album,
if you see something you like,
comment SOLD
and email me with your paypal and shipping address.
I have noted all sizes on each item,
some are not standard sizes
as I had them printed for projects,
but never used them.

Worried about shipping?
I have tried to keep shipping costs low.
If you order more than one photo,
you only pay one shipping fee,
the other prints (same size and smaller)
ship for free.

There is also an iPhone 4s case,

and a retro mint greeen savoy camera
that need new homes.

Here is a link to the album, it is full of goodies!
Have fun!

Mother's Day

On Mother's Day, my gorgeous little family
surprised me with a picnic adventure to the coast.
Oh how they knew this would make me so happy!

The weather was spectacular.
No wind, when normally the wind comes straight up from Antarctica.
Not even a breeze, much to our little guys dismay,
who had packed his kite.

The sun was shining,
the sky was a brilliant blue.
No clouds.
The ocean perfect shades of pale and turquoise blue.
We climbed to the lighthouse.
We saw penguins,
and seals.
The kids ate ice cream in the hot sun,
and we commented on how this has been the longest, hottest Summer,
stretching out through Autumn and so close to Winter.

We played in the sand,
and watched the waves.
We saw the snow capped mountains of the South Island.
I took photos, and savoured every minute of it.

There is something so simply magnificent about the beach,
and this part of New Zealand.
We are so blessed to live in this beautiful world.

for a reason.

The beach in Autumn

A few more from our day at the beach.
The day she danced in her tutu at the waters edge for me.
And stood and watched for waves.

Swoon

Yesterday we went on an adventure,
to a surf beach south of the city.
Expecting to see surfers.
It was a little disappointing to see the water wave-less and surfer-less.

Until Annabel danced in her tutu for me at the waters edge.
And they both stood and watched for waves.
 Swoon.

and she realised....

I have been craving adventure lately,
feeling really restless.
I blame it on the nostalgia that always seems to accompany
the subtle changes from summer to autumn.

And then, this week, our little boy turned 4.
On his birthday morning, sitting on our bed holding a new box of lego,
he looked around at us {his father, mother and sister},
and said with the hugest grin -
'I am so happy.'

And, of course, my heart melted.
It made me realise, that this is what happiness is.
All that is right here in front of me.

It's not in the adventures, it's in the people I am lucky enough to love.

New work - 'Celebrating the blues'

I've been completely inspired this summer,
by road trips, the beach, hot summer skies....
capturing these things with my iPhone,
and sharing them over on instagram.
I am seriously in LOVE with camera on the iPhone,
having it with me to capture these things,
it's just well, magic.

And so I re-created 6 of my favourite
instagram photos from this summer...
they are grainy and hazy,
like the bright blue sky in the heat of the day.
The words are all how I felt on the day each photo was taken.
I have added them to Society6 as iPhone cases, prints, canvases,
totes and cushions.  oh my!
I will also be adding them to Etsy later this week.

I think the cushions just might find their way
to the couch on our deck.....to remind us all
just how amazing summer is.

The pale blues

If you follow me over on facebook
you will have seen I posted this group of photos as photo blocks a couple of weeks ago.
It is my new favourite set, titled 'the pale blues',
with a coastal theme and two Queen Anne's Lace from the country just to spice it up.
I have been re-arranging my studio room, and was contemplating painting the walls pale blue or grey.
But really, this is the one room I want to keep all white -
slowly blue tones have been creeping into evey room we alter.
So instead, I am going to order 'the pale blues' in 8x8",
and hang them on one wall, to add my touch of pale blue to this space.

And while I have been sitting here, with the rainy grey sky as my view, I have started to daydream of Spring.
It's not long to go....really.....

Oh won't you fly....

oh won't you fly,
fly away with me,
to where we can feel the gentle ocean breeze...
and the sun on our skin...
to where we feel alive...

A beach weekend

Scenes from this past weekend,
spent on a girls weekend away with a group of my best friends,
over at Waikanae Beach on the west coast.

It is heavenly to have a break from 'life' ~
to sit in the sun and paint our nails while talking girlie talk,
to drink bubbles and wine and cook together,
to have coffee by the beach,
easy conversation and easy silences that come from friendships
you have cherished for more than half your lifetime.

It was wonderful to be at the beach again.
There is something about the ocean ~
the way the sun sparkles and dances on the water,
the way it blinds you yet you cannot look away,
the way the sand feels underfoot,
the sound of the water as it rolls and crashes,
the seagulls gliding over the sea.

The beach, it relaxes and centres.
It is refreshing, and soothes the soul.

Where I'd rather be

I am a spring/summer person, and don't handle the cold grey days of winter very well. So I am re-visiting photo files from warmer days....wishing it was the first day of spring already....
