So call me crazy...but here goes...
Today was our little girls 4th birthday. We had a family breakfast, a lovely little morning tea party, cake decorating, family dinner, candles, and then out came the dance party disco light balls and we cranked up the music and had her favourite - family dancing in the living room. It's a Saturday night treat in this house, to stay up a bit late for a dance party. My oh my how she loves to dance. Loves to dance with us. Loves to dance for us. And as we were turning the music on tonight, and she put on her butterfly wings, and ballet skirt ready to start dancing I actually had tulle envy. That's right, you read it correctly, I wished I had a ballet skirt full of beautiful tulle that I could put on to dance around the living room with her. I mean really, why should 4 year old's have all the fun? I think maybe, my birthday wish this year might be my very own dancing skirt, like the ones above from the absolutely divine shop ouma, for our little dance parties.
I know I've had a few wines tonight, but I'm sure there are a few of you out there with an inner 4 year old begging to dance in tulle?
Oh no I hear you. My deb dress was my perfect tulle heaven (a bigger version of that first image). Layer upon layer of it with a nice snug waistband - not too poofy but enough tulle to make a punch. Last Christmas at my mum's after a few champagnes I dug it out of the top of my teenage wardrobe and put it on just with a singlet top and twirled and twirled and twirled....lol My partner thinks I should sell it - I'm not so sure now!
ReplyDeleteyou cannot beat a piece of tulle, I love it! Don't we all wish we could be 4 years old sometimes! You're lucky because you have an excuse with your little girl, I hope I do too one day :-)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you! Why do kids get to have all the fun? My boss and I always joke at summer camp time that if we went around acting like the kids there someone would have us committed. oh to be a child.
ReplyDeleteYes Lulu you are so right - I do have an excuse, and I do indulge in it - last weekend we were walking around a packed Ikea and she wanted to be fairies - so we were both waving our fairy arms and talking in fairy voices - and I didn't care that I was getting strange looks. Morgan I'm sure there were people who thought I should be committed!! :) In a few (if I'm lucky for it to be that long) she won't be wanting me to play with her, so I am making the most of it now!
ReplyDeleteEmma - nooooooooooooooo, don't sell it, seriously, keep it, you will want to wear it again, even if it is after a few drinks! Please please please don't sell it - or if you do, sell it to me!!! :)
I was a ballerina, with real tutus and toe shoes. I've kept the toe shoes (and wear them from time to time, just because) but the tutu is long gone. In my book, no-one has to explain tulle envy to me! You would look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSusannah this all sounds absolutely delightful. At what point do we all get too serious and forget to have sweet innocent fun? I hope the rest of your day goes beautifully. Happy birthday to you both!
ReplyDeleteoh this so made me laugh! love the idea...you have to get one! x
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of dancing in a tulle skirt Susannah and congrats to your little one on her 4th birthday! You must post pics should you both dance together in your skirts,ok, love Kat xx
