Do any of you read the 'poppytalk' blog? Well, they have announced the Poppies virtual awards. I've been nominated under "Favourite Photographer" category, and I would love if any of you feel the desire to vote! There are more categories, with amazing handmade artists nominated.
In other news, I will be announcing the winner of the Calendar later on today!
Oh the curls, the "beautiful yet so hard to keep unknotted" curls, the "I wish they were mine" curls, the curls my polaroid is obsessed with....we had to cut them, just the ends, but now they are all gone....and I cried.
Now that the temperature is back down to bearable, I really wanted to take the kids on an adventure yesterday to the zoo.....but no matter how much I tried to convince my little girl she just wanted to stay at home and play. Surprising, as she normally loves the zoo. I gave up at 11am, and we played....and then there was a quiet moment when Otis was sleeping, and Annabel was playing happily and I could hear the Polaroid whispering from its home on the shelf.....it didn't need to beg, a slight whisper is all it takes for me to get it out for a play. I looked around for a subject, and spied my camera box. Annabel loved looking at all of the old cameras, and proclaimed, (as she so often does), "When I'm a big girl like Mum... I can hold your cameras". I love that one day when she, and Otis, are older they may (fingers crossed) be interested in my ever growing collection of cameras and want to 'play' too.
So a new series was created, and in the end it was a wonderful day at home,
a mixture of playing with kids toys, and playing with my toys!
(And are you surprised that the butterflies came out for a little play too?)
I have a feeling that this year is going to be even more wonderful with bigger dreams than 2009....well, it is more than just a feeling ~ it is a determination, a resolution if you care to call it that...to live in each moment, but to dream big for the next moment.
Above are the last polaroids taken in 2009, and below are the first for 2010.
Cheers to 2010!
(The bike in the top photo was hired for the day from The Humble Vintage Bike Hire - I highly recommend this company, the service was fantastic and it was a lot of fun to ride around Melbourne on a vintage bike for a few hours!)
My name is Susannah, and I love to take photos, adding layers and words to create whimsical images. I love the beach, hot air balloons, butterflies, hearts, all things vintage, the wide open blue sky. After more than 6 years in Melbourne, we now live in small town New Zealand. We love it here, but half of my heart is still in Melbourne. This is my place...to get lost in a daydream...
